Sometimes your best isn't enough. Sometimes you have to go the EXTRA MILE!

If you know of a team, group, individual or organization that has gone the EXTRA MILE on the field or in the community, you can nominate them for the Vaden Extra Mile Award.

Each week, the Vaden Family of Dealerships will award $500 to the group or individual that's gone the extra mile. And they'll be featured Fridays on WTOC NEWS at 6:00.

2/17/2010 - Performance Initiatives is a Savannah based not for profit organization dedicated to helping others by using athletics and fitness.  Our mission is simple - we want to inspire and implement principles in programs which will enrich the lives of others physically, psychologically, and spiritually.

2/10/10 - Coastal Pet Rescue is a volunteer non-profit organization in Savannah that is dedicated to saving the lives of neglected, abused, and homeless dogs and cats.  Founded in 2003 by Lisa Scarbrough the organization has saved the lives over more then 600 animals in that time. 

The goal of Coastal Pet Rescue
is to lower euthanasia rates at our county animal control shelters and be a valuable resource to the community.  It is our pleasure to recognize Coastal Pet Rescue for going the EXTRA MILE in our community to save the lives of so many animals.

2/03/10 - Sister Jude Walsh graduated from St. Vincent's Academy in 1943.  She then served as the principal for the school for 27 years.  Sister Jude says she has flunked retirement 3 times.  Sister Jude has not only dedicated her life to serving God, but also to St. Vincent's Academy and the students and alum who are part of the school. 

Sister Jude was nominated for this week's Vaden Extra Mile award because she continues to touch students and alums alike with her devotion and dedication.   Thank you Sister Jude for going the EXTRA MILE each and everyday for our community. 
  
 
 
 

1/27/10 -  For their commitment to the young people of the Lowcountry The Boys and Girls Club of the Lowcountry is this week's winner of the Vaden Extra Mile award.  The Boys and Girls Club wants to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.  Many thanks to the Boys and Girls Club of the Lowcountry for going the EXTRA MILE! 
  
 
 

 

1/20/10 - Food for the Soul is this week's winner of the Vaden Extra Mile award.  Ms. Diana South heads this effort to feed those in need.  Whether it is due to financial difficulties, health issues, or transportation problems Food for the Soul will help out as best they can.  Many thanks to Diana South and Food for the Soul for going the EXTRA MILE for our community.
   
 

1/14/10 - This week's winner of the Vaden Extra Mile award is Julie Hunter Martin, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Signature Squares of Brunswick.  This non-profit organization is dedicated to the restoration and preservation of Brunswick's 14 historic squares.  Julie has many responsibilities to this organization but most importantly organizing fundraising events, grant writing, speaking engagements, and working closely with city government & landscape architects to design and implement restoration plans. This is a volunteer position and so we are honored to recognize Julie Hunter Martin for going the EXTRA MILE to keep Brunswick squares alive and beautiful.
  
 
 
1/06/10 - The Hinesville Military Affairs Committee headed by PJ and Melinda Schneider is this weeks Vaden Extra Mile Award receipient.  The purpose of the HMAC is to provide support to Soldiers and their families while they are stationed here and during the Marne Division's busy deployment schedule.  They work to nurture the relationship by working as a team with Fort Stewart and the community.  Some of the programs they sponsor are:
  • Welcome Home activities when the 3rd ID redeloyed from Iraq
  • Organize the Fort Stewart Independence Day Food Court
  • Host deployment picnics
  • Many, many more

12/16/2009 - The Vision of the Old Savannah City Mission is to be a FIVE STAR Gospel Rescue Mission.  The Old Savannah City Mission receives no public funds.  All of the Mission's financial support comes from private donors who realize the importance of the work being done by this organization.  It is amazing that the Mission serves more then 120,000 meals per year and provides 26,000 beds. 

The Vaden Automotive Group is proud to recognize Rev. Jim Lewis and the Old Savannah City Mission for going the EXTRA MILE to help our community and those less fortunate.

12/09/2009 - FRIENDS of Caroline Hospice has been going the EXTRA MILE for 28 years in Beaufort, SC.  They remain the only hospice to offer all services completely free of charge.  They collect no money from their patients, their families, insurance companies, Medicare or Medicaid.  In order to provide these services, they rely 100% on donations and gifts from individuals, organizations, and fundraising events.

12/02/2009 - Amanda Page is a junior at Calvary High School.  In the last month Amanda has been through four surgeries and is facing yet another one in the next week. 
Even though Amanda has her own health concerns she is keeping her chin up and going the extra mile to make a difference in the lives of others.  This week Amanda volunteered this week to help with the Junior Olympics in Savannah.  Amanda is truly going the EXTRA MILE to help others in need.   Thank you Amanda for going the EXTRA MILE!
 
 

 

11/25/2009 - This week the winner of the Vaden Extra Mile Award goes to Hope House of Savannah.   

Hope House of Savannah is a home for single mothers and their babies. The program attempts to break the cycle of poverty and dependence by guiding the young mothers toward independence and providing them with a caring environment. Mothers learn to better nurture their children as they develop coping skills, life skills, socialization skills and positive behaviors.

The mission of Hope House of Savannah is:
Through intervention, communication and life skills, offered in a compassionate and nurturing environment, we empower single mothers and their children to become accountable, independent, functional families.

11/18/2009 - We are happy to announce this week's winner of the Vaden Extra Mile Award was presented to CODA.  The mission of CODA is:

CODA's mission is to prevent domestic violence through education and care of individuals and families living in Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper counties. 

CODA provides safe shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children as well as legal assistance, adult counseling, children's counseling and case management. All services are available to those residing in shelter and, on an outreach basis, to victims who no not require shelter. In keeping with its mission statement, CODA also has an active community education program.

Thank you CODA for going the "Extra Mile" in the South Carolina Lowcountry!

     
 

 

11/4/09 - We are proud to announce the Vaden Extra Mile Award was presented to David Herndon with The Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Georgia.  The Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Georgia provides a place for kids to learn, grow and mature - a place to have fun everyday - a place to catch up with friends - a place where kids make a difference too! 

Thank you David Herndon and the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Georgia for going the EXTRA MILE making it your mission to ensure teens are focused in a positive direction and the kids have a safe place to learn and grow.

10/28/09 - We are proud to announce the Vaden Extra Mile Award was presented to Wesley Community Centers of Savannah, Inc.

The mission of the Wesley Community Center, which was founded in 1949, is to promote the economic, educational, and spiritual growth of women, children and families.

10/21/09  - We are proud to announce the Vaden Extra Mile Award was presented to Horsin' Around Stables in Bloomingdale, Georgia.  Horsin' Around is a Non-Profit Therapeutic Riding Program with a focus on special needs children.
