Large-size pickup trucks are categorized mainly by their load capabilities and towing potential. There are so many entrants in this segment that it can become quite difficult to make an educated buying decision. The all-new Nissan Titan XD is aimed directly at truck buyers who want plenty of power, a good bit of luxury, and the latest in available high-tech features.
Technically a large pickup, the Titan XD isn't really all that large. However, it comes with a choice of two powerful engines and can tow well over 12,000 pounds. This may be all you need if you're considering a half-ton pickup. Because it is a new model with no history, it's well worth the time taken to investigate it closely.
You have the choice of a gasoline or diesel engine if you purchase the 2016 Nissan Titan XD. The gasoline engine is a 5.6L V8 that churns out a total of 390 horsepower. The optional diesel engine is a Cummins turbocharged 5.0L that produces 310 horsepower and an amazing 555 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and the Pro-4X features all-wheel drive. You can also choose all-wheel drive on the other trims. Transmission is seven-speed automatic with the gas engine and six-speed automatic with the diesel. Although not a record-breaker when it comes to acceleration, the Titan XD is a smooth-sailing truck on the open road, and the Pro-4X comes with special tuned suspension for a very quiet, comfortable ride.
There's plenty of standard features on the 2016 Titan XD. Even the base trim comes with air conditioning, cruise control, and a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel. The uplevel versions have an overhead console, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heated front seats. The Pro-4X can be purchased with a convenience package that adds on power front seats, heated rear seats, and a power-adjustable steering wheel. The Titan XD also features a column shifter, something rarely seen these days in a pickup truck. It makes possible the comfortable middle bench seat in the front row. The rear seats are quite comfortable, and a 6-footer can sit with ease behind the driver's seat. If you need extra cargo space, the rear seat bottoms flip up, and a flat platform flips into place just above the carpet.
While it doesn't compare to a top-of-the-line luxury sedan when it comes to advanced technology, the 2016 Nissan Titan XD offers plenty in the way of high-tech gadgetry. Bluetooth is standard across the board, and even the base trim features a 5-inch display screen. An audio auxiliary jack and USB port are also included. The uplevel trims add on such features as Siri Eyes-Free and NissanConnect mobile app integration, satellite radio, and a 7-inch infotainment display. Keyless entry and ignition is also standard on the uplevel versions.
Every 2016 Nissan Titan XD comes with antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front side airbags, and full-length side-curtain airbags. The latter have rollover deployment sensors. The uplevel trims include a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, and blind-spot monitoring. The NissanConnect Services subscription is available on the SL and Platinum Reserve trims and includes automatic crash notification and stolen vehicle alert.
